Formally known as African Explosives (Botswana) (Pty) Limited, AECI was first registered in Botswana as a local business entity with the registrar of companies in Botswana in 1973 and has undergone numerous name changes to the present AECI Botswana.
The company has been active in supplying explosives, accessories and support to Botswana’s mining industry from that time. In 1981 the firm partnered with Debswana in establishing local bulk explosives manufacturing facilities at Jwaneng Mine and then later at Orapa Mine. The company has upgraded its manufacturing technology on numerous occasions since then (the last being in 2003). In 1999 AECI established a permanent managerial and sales support office in Gaborone, Botswana and upgraded this to a fully-fledged autonomous commercial business in 2001.
