Mr. Fred Jansen has been Secretary of the Botswana Chamber of Mines since 2003. He is a British trained mechanical engineer who also holds a Masters Degree in Environmental Management from the University of the Free State in south Africa. Mr. Jansen has worked in the Botswana mining industry for over thirty years, managing the engineering projects and maintanance functions at the Jwaneng and Orapa mines before venturing into environmental managment 15 years ago. Fred played a leading role in the process of registering the Botswana Chamber of Mines, a process which has led to the chamber asuming its current leading role in the mining industry in the country. He currently chairs the BCM Safety, Health and Envoronmental sub committee.In this capacity he has represented the Chamber on many consultative committees engaged in developing safety and environmental legislation over the years; most notable of these being the Waste Management Act and the EIA Act.
